Believe it or not, it’s almost the end of 2019! As you’re wrapping up your year, you might be thinking about goals for the new year. New Years Resolutions aren’t just for adults, however. Here are some fun and practical New Years Resolutions kids can make for a great start to 2020.

1. Make Healthier Choices

Instead of sugary drinks like juice boxes or soda, encourage your kids to drink more water or milk with meals or during snacktime. You can also look for lower-sugar, organic juices to give them with breakfast or after school.

2. Try Something New

Encourage kids to make 2020 a year of stepping out of their comfort zones. Whether they are interested in trying out for a play or joining a sports team, help them discover their interests and get them involved in something new.

3. Read More Books

Setting a personal reading goal with your child is a great way to encourage them to expand their minds outside the computer screen. Set monthly or yearly book goals and offer little rewards when they meet their reading goals.

4. Make New Friends

Help your kids feel confident enough to meet new people and make friends in the coming year. Help them get involved in groups or activities that will allow them to get to know other kids their age.

5. Help Their Community

If your kids aren’t already involved in volunteer work or community activities, this is a great time to have them start giving back. Starting the year off with a positive, caring attitude will help to instill proactive habits for years to come.

One of the best ways to help your children follow through with their resolutions is to do them yourself! Many of the above ideas are also good for parents and older siblings. Make it a family effort, you will all benefit from setting resolutions. Happy New Year!
