One of the best parts about the holiday season is the activities and traditions that become timeless memories. From baking cookies to watching Christmas movies, families celebrate the holidays in a number of ways. Here are a few ideas to help you and your kids feel festive!

1. Stories by the Fire

If you have a fireplace, have the kids get into their pajamas, whip up some hot chocolate, and have a cozy storytime. Read aloud to them or have them read to you. Here is a list of some holiday favorites for all ages!

2. Feed the Birds

Give the birds, squirrels, and other outdoor critters a present this year. Make edible garland to wrap around your outdoor trees. String items like popcorn, cranberries, raisins, and apples together and wait for the birds to find it. You can also coat pinecones in peanut butter and sprinkle with birdseed. Hang them from your trees to feed the birds for days.

3. Make Cards

Get out the construction paper, glitter, glue and stickers; it’s craft time! Have your kids make a list of people they’d like to create cards for and encourage them to make their own unique holiday greeting cards. You can also encourage them to make tree ornaments or decorations as gifts for friends or family.

4. Cook Together

The holidays are full of great meals and treats. Get the kids involved in food preparation this year. Whether you need to bake cookies for a party or prepare a giant feast for the extended family, there are plenty of small tasks kids can help with. Food also makes great gifts for friends and classmates. Here are a few kid-friendly recipes to get them started.

5. Decorate

Get into the spirit with some flare around the house. Let kids help put up the decorations and ornaments to create traditions and memories that will help everyone feel the magic of the holidays. Some families even make a game out of decorating by hiding ornaments and letting kids find them.

No matter what you celebrate during the holiday season, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the simple moments with your kids. From timeless traditions, you remember from your childhood to new rituals, the best part of the holidays are the memories you’ll make!
