Rock Creek School teachers love seeing the social interactions of our students during lunchtime! Everyone love sandwiches from the classics with jelly, to a great ham and cheese sandwich. However, it can sometimes be hard to mix it up from the original sandwich and come up with different, healthy options to include in your child’s lunchbox. Here are six fun lunch ideas that are not sandwiches.
Chicken & Apple Sausage Wrap
Premade sausages are available at most grocery and wholesale warehouses. They are a great, easy, and a healthy option for lunches! Kids especially love the chicken or turkey sausages that are mixed with apples or pineapple for a bit of a sweeter flavor. Cut up these sausages and put in tortilla with their favorite sauce for a fun wrap! Consider serving this sausage with some hummus, pretzels, and sweet peas.
Pasta is delicious and can served in so many different ways. This lunch is even better if you are able to use leftover pasta from a weeknight dinner. Add in your child’s favorite vegetables and toss with their favorite dressing. Some possible sides could be cheese cubes, dried mangoes, and grapes!
Kids love eating food in different ways! Make a non-sandwich kabob by adding cheese cubes, pieces of meat, and a few vegetables for a fun combination of protein options. You can include a sauce option like honey mustard or ranch and don’t forget to add some fruits or veggies to the side, like cucumbers and ranch or cantaloupe.
Build Your Own Pizza
This is a healthier take on a popular Lunchable creation. Pack up some pepperonis, shredded mozzarella cheese and serve with crackers or on an English muffins for this Build-Your-Own-Pizza option. We love serving the pizza with bell peppers, or even some dried figs!
This fan favorite food is not often considered for lunch because it’s hard to keep them warm during the day. An easy tip is to warm the chicken nuggets up in the morning and then place them in a little thermos to stay warm until lunch time!
Strawberries and applesauce would make tasty sides for this fun lunch.
Deli Meat Roll Ups
This might just be a sandwich without the bread, but your student will love this creative spin! You can roll up ham or turkey with a slice or cheese and a little bit of their favorite sauce and close it up with a toothpick. Some fun side options might include cherry tomato, pickle slices, or a banana.
We know that you have a lot to take care of, and we hope this list helps you out with brainstorming lunch ideas for the next few weeks! What are some of your favorite lunch ideas that we missed? We’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
